Individual Advocacy
YDAS Individual Advocacy Secondary Consultations & Referrals
Our Advocates offer secondary consultations to those who work with disabled young people in paid or voluntary roles. This is also how we accept referrals for advocacy support from workers on behalf of their disabled young person.

Secondary Consultations
Secondary consultations are an opportunity for those who work with disabled young people to gain some once-off, individualised (yet de-identified) advocacy advice and guidance. This can include:
- Information about your young person’s human rights, including their disability rights
- Suggestions about actions you can take to help these rights be upheld or to build the young person’s capacity to self-advocate
- Information about what options are available to address human rights issues, such as where to make an external or formal complaint or report abuse and neglect
- Resources and tools to help you educate your young person about their rights
- Information about other services which might be appropriate
- The consultation may also involve a referral to our individual advocacy service for your young person if appropriate
Referrals
We encourage workers to support young people to refer themselves to YDAS for advocacy support. Please visit our ‘for young people’ page to support them with the process.
We cannot accept referrals for young people without their/their parent/guardian’s consent. Please do not send any identifying information about young peoplewithout their consent.
If you are unsure, please call us on ………. and we will talk through the most appropriate option.
